Before I begin with this article, let me first start by apologizing for all the aggressive and ‘direct’ posts I have written on Facebook in the past. I may write some of them in the future too because as they say – ‘to err is human.’
But to be brutally and extremely honest with myself and with you, I must say that those posts no longer matter. I wrote some good things too, but most of the things I wrote were absolutely useless reactions to the happenings around the world.
I wrote about the tensions between India and Pakistan but both the countries are not exactly the best of friends today. I wrote about how I am totally against feminazism and I shared articles/pictures related to it (No wonder I am single!) but scoop-poop just doesn’t seem to give up. Also, a lot of my female friends ended up unfriending me, probably because they were offended and thought that I don’t know what feminism is all about; but I will write more about that some other day. I wrote about how I sided with Aamir Khan when he voiced his opinion on the subject of ‘Intolerance’ and I ended up wasting a day responding to comments from a variety of people. I have been writing about the things wrong with the education system, but a lot of you are still studying under the same system under which I got my graduation. I also wrote about LBT (Local Body Tax) and recorded an aggressive voice note on it. The then chief minister heard the voice note and decided to scrap LBT once and for all. (Don’t read this post if you believed what I just said)
No matter whatever my opinion was and how logical or nonsensical it was, the fact is that IT DID NOT MATTER. It did not CHANGE anything.
Did it get me anywhere? Yes, it got me into the block list of many people.
I write this article in the wake of the recent online debates/polls/live chats/opinions that I have come across majorly related to 2 hot topics: Demonetization and Donald Trump.
I think Demonetization is a … sorry, no opinion on that. The fact is that demonetization is a law now. Just go to the bank and exchange your currency or deposit your money. That is it. There is nothing more to it.
You think it is unfair for you to wait in line to get your own hard earned money back? Well, deal with it.
You feel sad that a few people have died waiting in lines? Do your part by not rushing to the bank and surviving on plastic money for a while. You get everything online these days. You can buy grocery, train tickets, clothing, make up, daily utilities and book cabs, movie tickets, flights et al online.
But if you still think that ‘voicing your opinion’ is necessary, then tell me how is your rant on social media possibly going to change a law?
It is extremely stupid to see people who don’t know who their chief minister is giving their opinion on Trump’s glory in the US presidential elections. Ask me about it and I would in turn ask you to give the man some credit for what he has achieved by beating an ex-first lady who was certainly a more experienced candidate with a lot of celebrities on her side and winning the election despite all the negative publicity he got because of his nature!
A wise man once said to me:
Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.
Historically, India has always been an extremely reactive country. People love reacting to anything and everything almost immediately. And the best evidence to this statement is your social media wall when some piece of controversial news hits you.
People love fighting on things as silly as Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. I mean both of them are doing the movies they do and have their own unique ways of doing things. You taking either side is not going to cause a rupee worth of loss to either of them. They are simply doing their job and it is high time that you got one!
There is simply not a single day where I don’t see a rant published by someone on social media. What they don’t realize is that the only person who has made a living out of ranting is Arnab Goswami and even he recently resigned!
When it comes to social media, be rest assured that no one is asking for your opinion. At the most what you are getting out it is a good ego massage with the help of a few likes and comments. An article in The Guardian even suggested that social media use could most likely be related to development of narcissistic personality development in young minds. What you are unknowingly doing is spreading hate, negativity and provoking people on your friend list. You are provoking them to either side with you, ignore you or to remove you from their list.
You really want to change things? Go out there and conduct a protest march, participate in rallies or charity events, take an initiative and team up with people to solve a problem. A woman practically mints money by just sending SMSes to people in rural areas with water scarcity. She just acts as a mediator between the government and the people by offering them subscription services at Rs.10 or 20 per month and sends them the timings of when water will reach them. That’s how she created change.
Change does not just happen. It has to be created.
Finally, if you still think that your opinion matters, maybe Underwood can help you:
So, this was my opinion on your habit of always giving an opinion. My rant against your habit of ranting.
